New York TimesThe New York Times On Modern Noh Plays of Yukio Mishima
A Cycle of Destruction, From Love to Despair, Ben Brantley, The New York Times

Famed Japanese author Yukio Mishima wrote his Five Modern Noh Plays between 1950 and 1955. These contemporary plays are new works based on classics of the Noh Theatre.

We are pleased to be presenting two of these works on video for the first time; Aoi No Ue and Sotoba Komachi. These present entirely new staged productions directed by Kichitaro Negishi.

Each work is 50 minutes in length and contains English subtitles from the translations by Donald Keene.

DVD extras (in Japanese only)
include a 60 minute discussion about each play with Shimpei Matsuoka, Professor, University of Tokyo, Toru Matsumoto, President of the Yukio Mishima Literary Museum and literary critic Miyoko Tanaka.

The DVD boxes include a booklet (in Japanese only) with detailed information on the plays and their history.

Institutional Price: $ 250. per volume. [DVDs for personal use will be available shortly.]
